01The desk in the queen suite

The desk is in the queen suite, with the ocean through the sliding glass, a door that closes, and both a Wi-Fi and an Ethernet connection. Wi-Fi is included throughout the residence; for the call that cannot drop, the cable at the desk is the answer. The suite has its own bathroom with a walk-in rain shower and a wall-mounted smart television, so it works as an office by day and a bedroom by night without the two getting in each other's way.

Two people working at once have more than one desk to choose from.

• The dedicated workspace in the queen suite, with the Ethernet port.
• The dining table for eight, under the chandelier, with the ocean at eye level and room to spread papers.
• The kitchen island, with bar seating for four and the coffee machine behind you.
• The balcony's high dining table, for the calls that do not need a screen.

02Breaks on the balcony and in the kitchen

The balcony runs the full width of the home outside the living room, the dining room and both bedrooms, and it faces east, so the morning light arrives early and the desk in the queen suite gets it first. A break is a step through the sliding door: lounge seating, planters, the beach twelve floors down. Twenty minutes out there does what a walk around the block does at home.

Lunch without leaving

• The built-in coffee machine and a drip maker, with coffee provided.
• A full Miele kitchen: induction cooktop, wall oven, dishwasher, and the pans and dishes to cook a real lunch rather than reheat one.
• Grocery delivery to the residence, timed for when you are in, or Publix and Whole Foods a short drive away.

The groceries guide has a first-morning list and the delivery instructions that make it work: the tower, the floor and a phone number in the app, and a word to the front desk.

03Quiet hours and the building's rhythm

The Happiness Tower is home to full-time residents, and the residence keeps their hours. Quiet hours run from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and the house rules do not allow parties or events. For a working stay that suits the purpose: the noise on the balcony is the surf.

Practical rules for a working week

• Packages and luggage should not be shipped to the building before or during a stay; the building cannot hold them. Use a nearby delivery locker, a post-office hold or a local pickup point.
• Parking is paid valet run by the building; for a month or more, ask about the monthly arrangement.
• Cleaning during the stay is available; set the schedule with the host through Airbnb so it does not land on a call.
• Six guests is the maximum, visitors included, and a Ring doorbell covers the front door.

04The gym and the spa between calls

An elevator ride below the desk is a fitness centre with a Technogym floor and a spin studio, a yoga terrace and a meditation garden outside, and the wellness centre of about one hundred thousand square feet with twenty-two treatment rooms. The gym and the studios are included with the stay; the spa is booked with the resort, subject to its terms.

What fits between meetings

• The gym before the first call, on the come-when-you-like schedule of a resort gym, or a fitness class on the resort's timetable; no appointment, just ask at the spa desk.
• Twenty minutes in the salt room, a quiet room of backlit salt brick where you sit and breathe.
• The hydrothermal circuit at the end of the day: sauna, cold plunge and rest, over ninety minutes to two hours.
• A massage or a red light session booked for the afternoon the calendar clears; in winter, book early.

05A meeting in Miami or Fort Lauderdale

The Brightline turns a meeting down the coast into a train ride with Wi-Fi. The West Palm Beach station is downtown, about fifteen to twenty minutes from the residence by rideshare, and the coastal trains run roughly hourly from early morning to late evening. Buy the ticket in the app, walk in ten minutes before departure, and work the whole way; there is a power outlet at every seat.

The times that matter

• Fort Lauderdale in about half an hour. The station is downtown, a short rideshare from Las Olas Boulevard.
• Miami in about seventy minutes. MiamiCentral connects to the free Metromover for Brickell and downtown.
• Boca Raton and Aventura in between, each a short ride.
• Orlando in about two hours, with fewer daily trains, so book both directions.

06A longer-stay rhythm

The listing welcomes stays of 28 nights or more, and the time zone is Eastern, the same as New York and Toronto. Guests who work from the residence for a month tend to settle into a week that looks like this, then vary it.

• Mornings: the balcony, then the gym or a swim in the residents' pool before the first call.
• Working hours: the desk in the queen suite, lunch from the kitchen, a break on the balcony.
• Late afternoons: the beach, with chairs and towels included, or the hydrothermal circuit downstairs.
• One island evening a week: the docks at Sailfish Marina, or a casual seafood table a few minutes away.
• One Palm Beach evening a week: a museum, a show at the Kravis Center, dinner across the bridge.
• Weekends: the state park, the reef under the bridge, a day trip north or south.

07Booking a working stay

Dates and availability are on the residence's Airbnb listing. Before booking a working month, message the host through Airbnb with your dates, who is coming and how you plan to use the residence; long stays often have their own cleaning schedule and arrangements, and the answer is quicker in a conversation.

Worth settling before you arrive

• The season. November to April is the busiest and books first, and early check-in is not offered in those months. Summer is hotter, quieter and wetter in the afternoons.
• Cleaning. Agree a day and time that keeps the desk free.
• Arrival. Check-in is 4:00 to 10:00 PM by smart lock, with the building's registration form sent ahead.
• Hurricane season, June through November with a September peak: read the cancellation policy attached to your dates.
