01What a quiet celebration looks like here

The residence suits a milestone kept small: a couple marking an anniversary, four friends for a birthday, six at most. The day has a natural shape. Sunrise on a balcony the width of the home, the spa an elevator ride below, an afternoon on the beach with the chairs already set, and dinner either at the table for eight under the chandelier or across the bridge in Palm Beach, about twenty minutes south.

What it is not is a venue. The house rules do not allow parties or events, six guests is the maximum at any time, and the building is home to full-time residents. Within those limits, the residence does a celebration well.

The day, in order

• Morning: coffee on the balcony as the sun comes up over the water.
• Midday: the hydrothermal circuit for two, or the beach.
• Evening: dinner in, or a reserved table in Palm Beach.
• Late: the balcony again, with quiet hours from 11:00 PM.

02Sunrise on the balcony

The balcony faces east over the beach, so the morning of the day starts with the sunrise and nobody has to go anywhere for it. One guest wrote that the sun fills the entire unit in the morning, and both bedrooms open onto the same balcony, so the first light is shared. Lounge seating at one end, a high dining table at the other, planters between, and the Atlantic filling the view.

Breakfast for the occasion

• Coffee from the built-in machine, carried out before anyone else is up.
• Fruit, pastries and eggs from a grocery order timed for the night before; the groceries guide has the list.
• A bakery run across the bridge for a tray of coffees and a paper bag of pastries, back before the balcony warms up.

Sunsets happen behind the building, but the evening color lands on the water and the coastline in front of the balcony, and it lasts long enough for a glass before dinner.

03The spa for two

Below the residence is a wellness centre of about one hundred thousand square feet with twenty-two treatment rooms, and several of those rooms are couples suites, built so two people can have their treatments side by side. For an anniversary the simplest plan is a shared turn through the hydrothermal circuit, the hot and cold pools, the salt chamber, the sauna and the effusion shower over about ninety minutes, followed by two massages booked back to back so you finish together.

• Book the week you confirm the residence. Couples suites are popular on weekends and through the November-to-April season, and the good slots go first.
• Say you are together when you book, and the resort will tell you what its rooms allow.
• The Moroccan hammam is the one to plan for if you want a ritual rather than a massage.

The spa is run by the resort and booked with it, subject to its terms; the residence does not run the spa, and nothing downstairs is medicine. The spa guide has the whole menu, and the couples page plans a week around it.

04Dinner for six at the table for eight

The dining table seats eight under a cascade of glass pendants, with a mirrored wall that doubles the ocean, and for six people it leaves room for the flowers. The kitchen is a full Miele suite with an induction cooktop, a wall oven, a dishwasher, wine glasses and a wine fridge, so a birthday dinner can be cooked rather than reheated.

Menus that suit the room

• Stone crab, sold cooked and ready to crack from roughly mid-October to early May, served chilled with mustard sauce.
• Local grouper, snapper or mahi from the marina fish houses, pan-seared with citrus; the waterfront seafood guide names where to buy it.
• A grazing spread along the island for the night nobody wants to cook, or a delivery from a restaurant across the bridge.

The balcony has its own outdoor dining table for the warm evenings. Local caterers and private chefs serve the area and need arranging in advance; because that happens inside the residence, ask the host through Airbnb before booking one. The listing asks that furniture and accessories stay where they are, so keep the decorations to the table.

05A table in Palm Beach

Palm Beach is where the dressed-up dinners are, about twenty minutes south. For two, the hotel dining rooms and the established restaurants around Worth Avenue are built for a quiet, grown-up evening: low light, attentive service, no music to talk over. For a birthday table of four or six, a downtown steakhouse or a lively Italian room in West Palm Beach handles a group and the noise a celebration makes.

How to make the night work

• Reserve ahead in season. From November through April the good tables fill on weekends, especially on the island of Palm Beach.
• Dress a notch up: resort-elegant on the island, smart-casual across the water in West Palm Beach. A jacket never feels out of place.
• Take a rideshare so nobody is the driver and the parking question disappears.
• Add a show. The Kravis Center sits beside Rosemary Square, and the Norton Museum keeps its galleries open late on Friday evenings with music and a bar.

06The plain limits

The rules are short and they come from the listing. They are the reason the residence stays quiet enough to celebrate in.

• No parties or events. Dinner for six is a dinner; a gathering beyond the guest count is not.
• Six guests maximum, and visitors count. The king suite, the queen suite and the sofa bed sleep six.
• Quiet hours from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The toast happens before eleven, and the balcony is shared air with the neighboring homes.
• No smoking, inside or on the balcony, and no pets.
• No commercial photography. Personal photographs are fine.
• Guests must be 25 or older to book, and the listing marks the residence as not suitable for infants and small children because of the twelfth-floor balcony.

07Who arranges what

A celebration here has three parties behind it, and knowing who does what saves a week of messages.

The host, through Airbnb

Anything inside the residence: flowers on the table, a cake in the fridge, a cleaning visit before guests arrive, a private chef, an early check-in outside the winter months. Message the host with what you have in mind and when. Airbnb's messaging keeps a record for both sides.

The resort's concierge

Restaurant reservations, on the island or across the bridge, and questions about the pools, the beach service and the building. The concierge is at the residential lobby.

Treatments, the hydrothermal circuit and the couples suites, booked with the resort under its terms.

• Ask early in winter; November through April is the busiest stretch on the coast.
• Keep the guest count at six, visitors included, in every plan.
